Are Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I am currently using Xcode 3 and iOS SDK 4.2 on Snow Leopard. I plan to download and install Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3.

I would like to know if Xcode 4 and iOS SDK 4.3 are compatible with Snow Leopard.

Yes. You will have a separate .dmg available for download when you go to the iOS developer X-Code download link.

Please note that X-Code 4.2 will only have an iOS 5 simulator and library . If you want to use a lower version simulator and a library with X-Code, just go to X.Code-> Prefrences-> Downloads Tab. On the Download tab, you will see two tabs:

1) Components . Here you will have the opportunity to download iOS 4.3 simulator (~ 600 MB), iOS 4.0-4.1 (~ 670 MB) Support for debugging devices, iOS 3.0-3.2.2 (686.3 MB) Support for debugging devices.

2) Documentation - Yoy will have the ability to download iOS 5.0, XCode 4.2 Developer libaray, Mac OSX 10.7 Core Library.

Install the components you need and there you go.

Hope this helps.

There is a specific version of Xcode 4.2 (and probably earlier versions) that can be used on Snow Leopard. This is the version I'm using on my iMac. Please note that you can use the SDK 4.2 w / iOS5 and still deploy on older devices (and even download the 4.3 simulator) if you cannot find Xcode 4.

However, you cannot use (download) the one from the AppStore that is Lion-specific. To find a specific version of Snow Leopard magazine on the Apple Developer Portal, you'll see separate links for SL and Lion.

Yes, it is compatible. Download Xcode 4.2.dmg from the iOS developer program portal, which includes the iOS 5.0 SDK.

Yes, but only if you have the correct download from Apple.

There are currently two separate dmg download files for the SDK installer and Xcode from the registered developer website, one for Lion and one for Snow Leopard. Download for Lion is compatible only with Lion. Download for Snow Leopard is only compatible with Snow Leopard. The installer from the app store may only be for Lion, so you may need to register for the developer program to get another installer.

Apple usually removes (or hides) downloads for previous versions of the SDK, so if you didn’t download the correct dmg installer (with the SDK for iOS 4.x) for Mac OS of interest in time, you won. You have a compatible installer.
