EXIF as a thing for video

Is there a standard way to get information from a video file? For images, we have EXIF data that can be used to obtain information on date / time, size, etc. Image file. I was wondering if there is such an opportunity for the video.

Use case - I have many videos that I shot with my digital camera. I want to rename them to something more meaningful, like YYYY-MM-DD, not Video_N. YYYY-MM-DD should be the date and time the video was shot.

Any solution in Python, C / C ++, Perl would be appreciated, but if you have a solution in another language, please let me know.

Thanks.

exiftool reads video containers and their metadata.

Unfortunately, most cameras do not actually store enough metadata in the video :(

If they store it, due to the wide variety of video codecs and containers like AVI, MOV, MPG, MP4, etc., a good option is to run ffmpeg -i to read it.
