Set the maximum height of the css drop-down menu.

How to set max height of css popup menu without using javascript?

My example is here

There are many items in the drop-down menu. I want to set the maximum height and scroll bar of the display if there are too many elements.

I tried to install

<ul id="nav" style="max-height: 500px;height:500px;"> 

But does not work.
