Windows Phone emulator is not supported due to GPU configuration (windows 7 on Mac)

I get an error when starting the Windows phone emulator:

Windows Phone Emulator is not supported because your computer does not have the required GPU configuration. An XNA wireframe page will not work without a graphics processing unit. Do you want to continue running the emulator?

And when I try to access a webpage (any webpage), I just get a blank screen. How to resolve this?

I am running Windows 7 on a Mac.

Check the system requirements for the emulator on MSDN.

Start by updating your graphics drivers to the latest version. If this does not work, the next step is to upgrade the video card if you can.

A PC that does not start the emulator may still be used for development and debugging on a real device.

Perhaps you are also trying to run the latest SDK 7.1, which is much more restrictive than 7.0. If you cannot run 7.1, a descent to 7.0 may work on your computer.

If you use Windows 7 on a virtual machine in Mac OS X, this will not work because there are some restrictions on starting the virtual machine inside the virtual machine.

A quick and easy solution for this is to install Windows 7 in bootcamp, this worked for me.
