How hard is it to learn Java SE 6 from J2SE 5.0?

I am new here, and I have a quick question that I hope someone can help me.

I'm going to start learning Java, and I'm looking for a good tutorial to use. I found that “Introduction to Java Programming” by J. Daniel Liang was highly appreciated, but I was wondering if I could leave using the older edition (July 22, 2006) or the 7th (May 12, 2008) , but not the last of them since 2010. If I get the 6th edition, will there be any real problem in learning about the updates released since the publication? And even if I get the 7th or 8th issues, will I eventually have to continue to play a catch-up role, as there are more and more issues of issues?

Thanks in advance.

You will not find fundamental differences if you are just starting to learn Java. An older book will still be very relevant if it covers Java 5. I wouldn’t worry about getting an absolute consequence if you can get a better deal on an older version of the book. As for Java 6, it does not introduce a huge number of changes that affect Java 5 programmers. There are a few new things that you do not need to worry about right now. On the other hand, Java 5 introduced many new concepts that you will definitely want to familiarize yourself with.
