Does anyone have experience installing a KDE port for Windows?

I come from the Linux / Unix development background, and my last assignment uses a Windows XP-based development environment. I find that I am missing many of the features that I'm used to when working with Linux and KDE 4. In particular, this is the Konsole application. I noticed that there is a beta version of KDE 4 with several KDE application ports for Windows XP / Vista / 7. Does anyone here have experience with these ports?

The console is unavailable as part of the Windows KDE port, because Windows does not provide a Unix pseudo-terminal (pty) interface, which terminal emulators need to associate with the programs running in them. To do this, you need Cygwin (or one of the other Unix levels for Windows, but I don't know KDE about them), Cygwin, of course, also provides you with all the usual Unix command-line utilities.

The Cygwin distribution itself does not provide KDE, but another collection of Cygwin Ports packages is added. This includes Konsole. You will need an X server, with x.org provided by Cygwin being the obvious choice.

Please note, however, that getting the X server and KDE working with Cygwin requires quite a bit of effort than with Kubuntu or OpenSuse. For something simpler, although not enough tabs, you can take a look at Cygwin mintty , which is an xterm compatible terminal with a native Windows UI that does not require an X server.
