hg head lists several heads. How did you find out which head is active in your working directory?

hg id gives you a revision of the working directory. hg sum provides the same information and a few more. You can also check the compass extension, which contains detailed information about the "location" of your working copy throughout the repository.

From the command line, you can use: hg log -r . to view the revision of your working copy.
