Good books and web resources for JOGL and JMonkeyEngine?

I am currently trying to solve using JOGL and JMonkeyEngine in a project, so I would like to know a little about the basics of each and decide which one I prefer. Does anyone have books or web resources to recommend for learning how to use them? I really prefer material that provides a lot of detailed information and examples that use good style for brief online tutorials with low-quality code examples. The official documentation is always good, but I have not found it yet. JMonkeyEngine says it has full documentation, but I haven't found it on my website yet. Any information would be appreciated.

Perhaps I should mention that I have not used OpenGL before. If I switch from JOGL , I will need to learn all the basics of OpenGL , so I also need good OpenGL resources if the JOGL resources are not described in detail in it.

I am on the main jMonkey team, although not as a programmer.

For starters, if you are considering JOGL, I hope you look at JOGL2 on JogAmp , and not at the old junk on Java.net. In terms of using JOGL and jME are two different things. JOGL, such as the LWJGL on which jME is based (and Minecraft to name it), only makes you mostly basically OpenGL easier. It means even more freedom, but you will spend a lot of time creating the bare bones of your game before than you can use it in real games.

jMonkeyEngine, the latest jME3, is especially designed with intermediate developers in mind, not with limitations, but with a gradual learning curve and many built-in game features.

Our wiki is located at jmonkeyengine.org/wiki/doku.php . Even if you are more used to Eclipse, I highly recommend using the jMonkeyPlatform (jME3 SDK) for all your jMonkey developments, as it comes with many tools that we simply could not put in the kernel kernel.

As for books, I do not believe that there is one. Our lead author is working on a contract with Packt . The final book, "jMonkeyEngine 3 Beginner Guide," is expected in late 2011 or early 2012.

I can not speak for JOGL (although I think they would say the same thing), but if you have any other questions regarding jMonkeyEngine, I suggest you visit our forum.
