Looking for Apple Appstore name through API?

Can I search for apps by name through the API? For example, the equivalent of "Return a list of applications (if any) with the word" dog "in the header."

I saw two access points that are approaching, but don't seem to offer this:

  • RSS feed it lists applications, but apparently only groups like "top 100 ..."

  • Request interface; but it doesn't seem to be asking for the type of media application. (?)

I have found the answer. Although this is clearly not documented, you can search by application name.

You are right, it was not very clear on this iTunes page at all. The entity = software parameter is the key. For example, here is a search for my application, TypeLink:

http://itunes.apple.com/search?entity=software&term=typelink&callback=myCallbackFunction

If you're curious about what the callback is for, here is some more information about the JSONP format it uses:

For any future person who wants to link to the App Store keyword search results page directly from a web link, this format has been working since April 2013:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/search?media=software&submit=media&term=KEYWORD%20GOES%20HERE

Was there a PITA to understand, but finally got the correct syntax ... This is necessary because the client has applications made by several developers, so I could not just use the proposed link Appstore.com/DeveloperName to return all my applications .

Thanks to everyone for sharing wisdom. Hope this helps someone.
