Any way to automate YSlow? Or an alternative having an API?

Is there a way to automate YSlow or use it programmatically? I donโ€™t have enough knowledge to write my own Firefox extension to use YSlow.

There was a similar question , but it was older than a year, and I wanted to know if something new had appeared since then.

www.webpagetest.org looks promising. I am looking for more alternatives.

Try http://www.showslow.com/ . You can also download it from github and install it on your own server.

You can try the Google PageSpeed โ€‹โ€‹Insights API .

How to use it:

  • Get a free API key from the developer console
  • Make a GET request at https://www.googleapis.com/pagespeedonline/v1/runPagespeed?url={THE_URL_TO_CHECK}&key={YOUR_API_KEY}

Maybe you need the GTmetrix service. It is excellent and free. You cannot program it yourself, but it will automatically track your sites, and thatโ€™s really all you need.

Actual download speeds are insidious and unreliable. They greatly depend on your choice of browser, network activity, geographic location, local memory usage, etc. You should not use download speeds for optimization. Optimize for YSlow and Page Speed โ€‹โ€‹only.
