I understand that it is probably automatically installed when downloading and installing from the market; however, what about preinstalled applications? How did the device manufacturer set this value or even set it?
I noticed that with Froyo, pre-loaded applications behave badly with respect to the market and updates. When the database is updated, pre-loaded applications do not know and there are no notifications. However, I heard that this was fixed with Gingerbread while the applications were pre-loaded properly. The only change I found in the API related to this was the info.firstinstalltime package. So, how did the device manufacturer set this up so that the android can properly notify users of updates for pre-loaded applications?
