Coda , BBEdit and TextMate are, in my opinion, the most popular text editors for web development. TextMate has a 30-day free trial and is $ 57. The code is $ 99, and I do not have a free trial (as far as I know). And BBEdit is $ 99 and has a free trial (I donβt know how long it works).
For a free text editor, you can use TextWrangler from the same people who made BBEdit.
My personal preferences are Vim / MacVim; but learning the Vim language is probably too large if you just do only HTML / CSS. I would recommend trying all this and see what you like best.
EDIT: last note: everything I list here is very extensible, and if there is a function that you like in one, it will most likely be ported to one or more other editors. Keep this in mind, because you should not immediately reject any particular editor for what it offers as the default setting.
If you are really special in your editor (which you should be, because this is the most important tool in your arsenal), you should also look at the available plugins for each code editor to get a true picture of what they can and cannot do.
