Even I face the same amount of problems. What I use is to go to DDMS and click on the name of the emulator, which is displayed on the left side of the window under the heading "Name" in the "Devices" window. Logcat will now begin to display the sequence of events. If this does not work, then reset adb by clicking the down arrow on the left side of the DDMS window under the heading “Devices”. Hope this solves your problem.
