Codeigniter xmlrpc Not Received '200 ok'

Question

I am trying to implement the xmlrpc server / client in the CodeIgniter user guide. I took the code as is and continue to receive

Did not receive a 200 OK response from the remote server.

I am running php 5.2.1 on the server. A quick google search leads to http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/63287/ which does not help. I also tried modifying the Xmlrpcs.php file in the system / libraries without success.

Any help would be appreciated.

So what does IS CI really send back? A test setup using Firebug and CUrL may help.

I am using a CI installation with an ajax controller that handles its own AJAX requests.
