How to create a page template?

So, I have to miss something. I want to create a specific template for the base page with Drupal 7. I read about how to make a file called page-mypagename.tpl.php and put it in the theme folder, but that did not work for me. Can anyone walk this path quickly?

Drupal makes my head hurt.: \

Be sure to clear the cache in Drupal after major theme changes that include adding files to the theme as described above, otherwise your theme may not raise new files.

The last thing I checked, the Devel module still does not work for D7, but if it appears, I highly recommend using it with the devel_themer module, it has a tool that will tell you what exactly to name your files for different elements ( pages, nodes, fields, etc.).
