Hibernate query returns only the first character of a string

Question

When I run such a query in oracle 10g using sqldeveloper, it works fine.

select 'Canada' as "country", emp.name as "name" from emp. 

Gives me a name and a country. When I start it in sleep mode as a named request, I get only "C" instead of "Canada" for "country".

Why is this so?
