You must create a financial report in which formatting is controlled by data.

did not report for some time, but does any reporting support that

eg. based on the flag in the original data set, the text of the line may be bold, the line may have underline, a new group heading may appear in the report, etc.

There is a component called ReportViewer for WinForms that ships with Visual Studio. This will do exactly what you need. You can bind it to one or more DataTables and, in fact, provide you with a report in PDF or XLS or whatever you have. If you do not need to present it to the user, just use the LocalReport class and call its Render () method.
