Cannot find MVC3 pattern

I have Visual Studio 2010, and I cannot find the MVC3 template when creating a new project. I only have the MVC2 template, but most of these tutorials on the ASP.net site itself already have MVC3 installed. Somewhere do I need to add a template to my Visual Studio templates?

VS2010 comes with MVC2. You need to install MVC3 before you get the templates. You can find the installer at http://www.asp.net/mvc/mvc3 .

Change the framework version to a Net 4.0 point and templates will appear.

If you are on XP, you need to install Microsoft Windows SDK v7.0, otherwise MVC templates will not appear in the list of project types. The platform installer will not give you errors, and the downloaded installer will tell you that the update is not applicable to your system without resorting to details.

If you already have VS2010 SP1, installing MVC3 does not work (WPI or standalone). There is a workaround described here: http://tedgustaf.com/en/blog/2011/4/installing-asp-net-mvc3-on-visual-studio-2010-sp1/

Basically, you download the standalone setup exe and extract and run individual installers from it.

The thing has changed when programming with MVC. You should start your project by adding a new project, not adding a new website.
