Text editor for web development CSS, HTML, JavaScript, PHP on Windows 7?

I am looking for a free text editor to use mainly for web development in Windows 7 to format my:

  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • Javascript
  • Php

I would like a simple application without a lot of confusing buttons, but that would automatically end the XHTML tags and recognize CSS attributes and attribute values, if possible.

Notepad ++ , in my opinion, is the best.

To expand on this, it is free, lightweight, has a very large community of plugins, supports zen coding, has syntax highlighting, text completion, etc. All this and it still works lightning fast, as it was notepad.exe

Komodo Edit - Its full extensions and customization options.

It opens on my desktop 24/7

Komodo Edit

** edit the komodo version for free, but you need to pay for the IDE if you want to. But I have been using the editing version for many years and its wonderful.

I don’t know how this will work for you, but I am using the VS 2005 editor, and that’s very good. The editor paints the syntax elements of JS and HTML, and, at best, he understands everything about indentation.

Notepad ++ is the best I have found. However, if you are looking for automatic completion and hints, you will need some kind of IDE.

The only two PHP / HTML / CSS / etc IDE that I know of are Netbeans and Eclipse.

Netbeans: http://netbeans.org/features/php/

Eclipse: http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/
