WiFi triangulation on iPhone

Suppose you have a zoo and you want to create an application that shows you the details of each animal when you are near the cage. (just for the sake of this question ... GPS signals are not an option)

If there was a WiFi router next to each cell, are there any methods that the iPhone application can use to determine if the phone is nearby? I assume this is WiFi triangulation.

Or are there other methods for this kind of geolocation without GPS?

iPhone can detect signal strength. Therefore, it may be sufficient to have a router inside each cell with some estimated radiation power.

However, if it is full, a mapping of routers and a comparison of the intensities of different routers may be displayed.

Good idea =)

iPod touch actually uses this triangulation to get the location of the iPod, but it requires a lot of data and is much less accurate than GPS.

You could try, although in a smaller area (for example, in a zoo), he believes that it will be possible: calculate the signal intensity from each router and estimate the distance from three of them according to the signal strength.

Another option in this particular case is to offer an application for scanning a bar code in each cell and displaying information about animals.
