Case sensitivity publishing - ASP.Net problems with web.config

I recently went to deploy an asp.net solution on a Win2003 server.

I got error messages that referenced assemblies that were supposedly missing.

It is clear that the publication on my development machine (XP SP3 32bit) was in upper case, while the same files on the server (I can’t check at that moment if it was 32 or 64 bits) had a lower case publickeytokens.

(I used win explorer going to c: \ windows \ assembly)

Making changes to web.config so that the publication matches the build structure on the server, the trick and the application work.

I tried to investigate the cause of the difference, but did not find anything.

Can someone help or point me in the right direction as to why there will be publicicktokens on different machines in different cases?

Thank you very much

Neil
