Version for SharePoint

Question

Is there a best practice for version control of SharePoint features?

Our SharePoint product is released every 3-6 months, and we need a way to clearly distinguish between the new version and the old version. We also need to support the simultaneous installation of a new and an old feature so that customers can test new material before deploying it.

Versioning features are not supported in Sharepoint 2007. In Sharepoint 2010, you can use the Versions features, as usual, in versions.
