Has AAC + support been installed on all Android phones?

I would like to switch from MP3 encoded audio files to AAC + for audio files stored in the Android app. This will reduce the installation size.

The problem I am facing is that AAC + support was broken in the Froyo Android release: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9308

It was later installed: https://android.googlesource.com/platform/frameworks/base/+/16263d9f8cc01392c2f3678b381ce897647c8c81

Pandora FAQs have confirmed that some phones have been updated by air, but have been warned about other phones:

Why am I having problems with audio on Froyo?

If you updated Froyo (Android 2.2), you may notice sound quality problems while listening to Pandora. The Android team is aware of this issue with AAC + audio and has released a hotfix that is gradually deploying to different Android phones.

Sprint HTC EVO and Google Nexus One are currently updating Android OTA, which will enable this AAC + audio patch.

If you have a different phone than the two mentioned, contact support for if you have additional questions about this issue.

Have all Froyo phones been updated to include this fix? Or are some carriers / manufacturers not worried? This is very common with Android, as they claim that testing updates is too expensive.

My Flurry indicators show Android 2.2 at 33.2%, 2.1.1 at 12.2%, 2.2.2 at 0.1%. Therefore, if a fix appeared only with a change in version number, it does not match most Froyo phones.

Depending on the time of fixation, this was probably fixed in 2.2.1. Since there is no SDK level in version 2.2.1 / 2.2.2, Google does not track its use separately from 2.2. Gingerbread and Honeycomb account for 19.5% of total updates since July 5, 2011 , and all of them have the AAC + patch. Most manufacturers and operators do not release any updates other than the main ones (OS update), so I would estimate that approximately 25% of all devices have this fix. You can also try using Ogg Vorbis, as support for it is built into all versions, and for the voice profile, what you plan to use for may be enough.
