Windows Phone 7 Volume Settings programmatically

Is there a way to programmatically change the sound settings of Windows Phone 7? Enable or disable sounds for Assignment and all other notifications? Also to change the global volume, i.e.: Ring tone.

There is no API to enable the above tasks. You can adjust the sound volume for sound in an application using the XNA API, but this is the amount of control available.

You can control the volume of the media player and the sound effect, but you do not have control over the main volume. Also note that on some HTC devices there is an error in the sound drivers, which forces them to ignore the sound volume setting.
