Cannot open PDF files in SharePoint 2010 by using Internet Explorer

Therefore, we could not open the .pdf in the browser on our SP2010 site. I set the option for permissive processing of browser files in the central admin. Then I found out that there is an error that if a site is created from a custom template, the pdf files uploaded to this site will still request either "Save" or "Cancel". I ran the patch on the server http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2459108

Consider the following scenario:

  • You set the browser file processing permission for the web application on the general settings page in the main administration of SharePoint 2010.
  • You create a document library and then load the html document.
  • You open the html document in a browser.
Note. You are not prompted to download the html document and it is displayed in the browser.
  • You choose to include content when saving a SharePoint site as a template.
  • You use the template to create a new SharePoint site in the same web application.

In this case, the list option "Processing browser files" for the document library on the new site is set to Strict. In addition, when you open the html document, you will be asked to download the file.

Now, when I click on pdf using firefox, I can open it directly, but using Internet Explorer (8 and 9, the default settings). I still can’t do it, what is this solution?

Edit: Perhaps it always worked in firefox, anyway, when I create a new library, it works as expected. How to run this option in all libraries?

There is another, more subtle, but simpler cause of this problem.

After multiple searches on the Internet and many hours with MSFT support, however it may seem, it may seem that the main reason for my "SharePoint will not open PDF documents" problem was actually an extension of Adobe / on. The symptom was an Adobe "msgstr" error error after clicking a PDF list item in a document library. Criminal, Adobe extension / addition: "Adobe Acrobat SharePoint OpenDocuments Component."

I do not know how this was established. What I know (finally) is that this component actually does the exact opposite of what its name implies, that is, it apparently prevents PDF documents from opening when you click in a SharePoint 2010 document library.

After various unsuccessful attempts to solve this problem (including changing the settings of the “Browser File Handler” on the web application server from “Strict” to “Permissive” and other corrections proposed below and elsewhere on different blogs and websites), nothing fixed the problem until we disable this Adobe extension / add-on. Then the problem is solved.

Please note that you cannot see this component in the "Tools> Manage Add-ons" list until you try to open a PDF document from the library: apparently, the add-in is not activated (the list will not be displayed in this) until it is attempted attempt to "open". SO - if at first you do not see the specified component, try opening the PDF file and checking the list again. If this component appears, disable it and your problem will most likely disappear.

Obstacle, at best; or, even worse, is actually vile on parts of Adobe ...?

Anyway, I would like to know how to open a PDF file in a separate browser tab in IE and shift the active tab. If anyone can help with this, please let me know! There are no special encoding solutions, PLEASE!

There is a better way to deal with the "Manage browser files" problem. Take a look at my blog here: http://www.pdfsharepoint.com/sharepoint-2010-and-pdf-integration-series-part-1/

Solution No. 2 addresses the Pdf extension without subjecting the entire web application to “permissive” viewing. Setting "View file with descriptor" to "resolving" opens up too many vulnerabilities with other file extensions.

Thanks,

Dmitry

I have the same problem: Office Web applications were initially installed, then disabled, included in the client application, and then the value for each doc library changed to open in the browser. However, the problem is with the PDF files.

If someone includes a link to them in the ad, then this person can open, and the other does not. But only in IE - there is no problem in FF

Just change the browser file handling for the web application from the central administrator as:

  • Central Administration> Application Management> Web Application Management
  • go to the web application example "http: // sharepoint: 80, just select it
  • from the top ribbon click "General Settings"
  • go to the section "Processing browser files" and change it to "Permissive"

If not clear, go to http://www.pdfsharepoint.com/sharepoint-2010-and-pdf-integration-series-part-1/

try the following:

Make sure you are the site collection administrator. Go to the site (not the central administrator), and then go to the site settings, then go to the site collection features. There you will find the option "Open documents in client applications by default", it will probably be deactivated. Active, and you feel good. users will then open attachments in their applications that are assigned to applications, rather than in sharepoint web applications.

In addition, try switching to Adobe Reader, and in the settings you can open a browser. check or uncheck the box depending on what you want to do.

Encryption and SharePoint do not work well

Right-click My Documents or the Source Folder Choose "Properties"> "Advanced" (button) Uncheck "Encrypt content to protect data"

This should solve many of the SharePoint problems that may occur, including files that do not open properly.

Appreciate that this is an old post, but still very relevant today. I spent some time trying to get this to work - I just thought that I would share my conclusions.

This applies to Adobe Acrobat. If you use another PDF viewer, such as SumatraPDF, the problem does not occur.

1. To prevent the Open, Save, Save As dialog box in Internet Explorer:
This applies to versions of Acrobat. Set the following key / value:
Key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\*acrobat_version_number*\FeatureLockDown\cSharePoint
Value Name: bDisableSharePointFeatures
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0x1 (hex)

eg
For Acrobat X:

 HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cSharePoint

2. To disable the opening of PDF files in the browser
This applies to versions of Acrobat. Set the following key / value:
Key: HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\acrobat_version_number\Originals
Value Name: bBrowserIntegration
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0x0 (hex)

eg
For Acrobat X:

 HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Originals
