Sending a text message from a WCF service

One of the requests of my product owner is for some of our company cell phones to receive a text message if a specific event occurs.

I can easily capture an event in my WCF services. But I'm not sure where to go for part of the text message. This is something I need to subscribe to the service. Is there any way to do this for free? Should I go with the carrier?

I am using C #, .NET 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008

Take a look at Twilio or Tropo - both SMS gateways with which you can interact programmatically.

A lot of sms services on the Internet. For my last project at work, I had to use smsextrapro , but I do not know what the rates are for this.

I send them an email with the relevant data + message, and they do the rest. Pretty easy and straightforward.

Just go to Google and compare some services to find out better what suits you and your client.

It also depends on where you are trying to send SMS. For example, here in Canada, most providers have the ability to send SMS via email address, posted for each phone user . The trick is that you need to know which phone card the user is using.
