How to: javascript fade in fade out text

Question

First of all: I looked at other posts on stackoverflow, and none of them searched for the information I was looking for.

Secondly: I am new to programming;)

I want to have a div on my site that fades and fades text. I have seen this on several websites, and I'm sure it is javaScript using the jQuery library.

Does anyone know a good tutorial or can tell me how to do this?
