Is there an easy way to cut a fragment from an image using Gimp?

Surprisingly, if there is an easy way to remove a rectangular slice over the entire width of the image using Gimp and get the resulting hole automatically. I hope this makes sense. If I select a fragment of the image and do a “cut”, it leaves an empty hole there. I want the new upper and lower parts of the image to connect and fill this hole, reducing the height of the image by the amount cut off.

Any easy way to do this?

I believe that you are asking to do something like cutting out the middle of the page, leaving the header and footer and removing the white space with the cut action, effectively combining the header and footer.

As far as I know, I do not believe in it. Even if you cut or delete, this space is still part of the image, even without content.

But you could select the top or bottom (or left or right) remaining space and drag it to align it on the other side. This is not ideal for repetitive tasks, but you need to go through if you need to do this several times.

In gimp 2.8.1, you can easily create a new image from a selection. Therefore, if you select a rectangle than a copy (Ctrl-C) and the past in the new image, Change → Insert as → a new image (or Ctrl-Shift-V).
