Whatever we do in winform, we can do in wpf as well. Only the difference in winforms also works in an older OS. Starting with VS2005, there are not a lot of add-ons in the winform library and controls, while there are a lot of add-ons in the WPF libraries and controls. And VS2010 is completely written in wpf. Based on these facts, it seems that Microsoft is quite interested in increasing wpf. Also, like on my network, most new desktop programs choose wpf. Winform will certainly be there for the next 5 years, but I will doubt its future after that.
