You can edit the standard EDT by going to System Administration - Settings - System - Change data types. There you can adjust the length of the standard EDT, which cannot be adjusted otherwise.

You cannot edit JournalDescription even in AOT, as other transactions will be affected. And you also do not want to change the records of these transactions. Think about the possibility that something will be affected after changing the length or any properties of the field. Best of all, try to do this in the test environment of your system.
