Increase column capacity in AX 2009

I am extremely familiar with AX and start with something very simple. I need to increase the size of a column called Invoice. In AOT, the StringSize property in the column is grayed out, so I cannot change it.

In SQL Server (2005), the column is nvarchar (20), so I think AX can just use any type of DataType in db.

If I try to increase the size of the column in SQL Server, it will tell me that the table will need to be deleted and recreated.

What is the best way to increase column size in AX?

To increase the capacity of a column, you usually change the StringSize property in the extended InvoiceId data InvoiceId .

However, in this case, the InvoiceId extended data InvoiceId extends from the Num extended data type, and you will need to make changes there. This increase in size will also affect all other extended data types that extend Num .

This extended data type can be found in the AOT in \Data Dictionary\Extended Data Types\Num .
