There is a driver for firebird delphi and dbx4 http://sites.google.com/site/dbxfirebird/

My assumption is that it’s easy for you to dump blackfish tables in csv and then import them into firebird and then modify only the firebird db access application using the firebird dbx4 settings

Unless you rely on certain Blackfish features (SP, trigger, administration package calls, etc.), this change should not be painful.

I did such a migration to DEMO for a client.

If you used Blackfish as a "collection of tables accessible through SQL", then this change is not difficult.
