Origin of the most popular file upload pattern on the Internet

Most modern file download / sharing services, in addition to having a large number of ads and constantly offering you to purchase a subscription, also have the same design template: when you are ready to download a file, they usually write something like "Your download should start automatically after 5 seconds. Click here to download manually. "

What is the rationale behind this behavior? Where is it from? Why don't they just send a redirect or open a temporary link in another window (via target="_blank" )? TIA

I would say, because it has become what people expect. Often, a direct link to a file leaves the user a blank window when downloading files (depending on the browser, I did not check, but I am sure that this behavior was common with browsers 5 years ago), so avoid this good one. I would bet that most Internet users would be confused if they click on the download link and are presented with a blank page (and somewhere somewhere, possibly hidden, downloading the file). Since this has become commonplace, now this is what users expect, so doing it differently will make it more confusing for most users, even if it makes sense!

They probably sell premium ads on these pages because most people will look at the ads while they wait for their download to complete. Guaranteed Vision - Gold.
