What jQuery modal popup or lightbox plugin works in IE7, IE8, IE9 Firefox, Chrome, Safari?

We are trying to place a login popup on the screen when the background is darkened and mouse clicks are disabled.

We use jQuery, and this is a Rails 3 application, and we are looking for a lean plugin.

It was hard to come up with a framework that supports IE7 and IE8 equally. Other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE9) do not pose a big problem.

We would also like to avoid using overlays of the background image, if possible, due to lateny issues. For the same reason, we do not want to download the entire effects library, if possible.

Thoughts?

Colorbox is what you are looking for.

I have used ColorBox in the past (and this is good), but now I use jQuery UI Dialog because it is the most flexible and compatible popup dialog.

You can also run it from Google’s CDN without even adding a script to your project.

to my mind

http://fancybox.net/ Fancybox is a good option. This works well for me. but I’ve never tested it in all browsers, so I can’t say that it’s “browser compatible”.
