Use WebMatrix to work on a site without WebMatrix

Does anyone know if you can use Microsoft WebMatrix to work on a site that was not originally created using WebMatrix.

The site I want to work on does not represent anything. Just basic html, css, php and mySQL.

Yes it is possible. If you installed WebMatrix, you have a new option when you right-click on any folder: Open as a website using WebMatrix.

No. WebMatrix version 1 (7.1.1073.1) does not allow downloading a published site from FTP if it has not been downloaded using Web Deploy, and the hosting provider is compatible with Microsoft:

Unable to download site The site cannot be downloaded using FTP. You can download only a site that was published using Web Deploy.

I can’t imagine that Microsoft would regard this as a mistake, rather as a marketing opportunity!
