Is there a ticketing system that also manages projects?

You were looking for a ticket system that also has project management capabilities. We currently use Trac, but we find that it is really difficult to configure, and also has very poor workflow support. Ideally, we need a system that has:

  • Ticket system that supports workflow
  • Integration with Active Directory window for user management
  • Good integration with our control source (SVN)
  • Has project management and reporting functions. At least some Gantt chart.
  • The project manager should be able to choose tickets and functions in order to go to a specific milestone / sprint
  • The interface of this system should be accessible from any platform (windows, mac, etc.).

Which system should we use? What are your impressions? We look at a few examples, such as Jira, FogBugz, TFS, Jass, etc. There are too many looking for recommendations.

We are a commercial store, so the cost is not a problem.

Personally, I believe that Atlassian products are affordable, reliable and well supported, so I went with JIRA when I looked at ticket systems in the past. It goes well with AD and SVN, with which I had problems with setup. One of the reasons I chose JIRA was the reporting function, which gave big problems in the number of problems and progress in each project and even allowed you to use SQL-like syntax to configure as needed. This is a website, so any platform is not a problem.

I have not used it for project management, but they have a solid community of plugins, and a quick Google search includes several gantt plugins, such as the Gantt Connector .

I agree with the Redmine proposal - it received excellent functionality compared to the rest of open competition / free competition, although, in my opinion, this is still a relatively immature and unpolished product.

If you have your own servers or high-level VPS, someone is committed to IT / admin and do not mind paying money, I think Atlassian toolkit (Jira, etc.) is a way to go to functions, convenience use and settings.

You can add my favorite to your short list: Gemini from CounterSoft.

It is based on .NET and simply requires Windows IIS / SQL Server, works in all browsers (even for some of our clients running under IE6, and supports MAC boys!).

There is no AD support yet, but it has enough flexibility to help you configure it so that you quickly accept users. By this I mean, define your screens, set up shortcuts on the screen, workflows, metadata for each project, nested versions (for your sprints, etc.).

Oddly enough, one thing that really matters to us is built-in editing: in-place editing when viewing problem lists, simplification for daily meetings, etc. Reporting is basic, but we went into our own custom reports (by creating simple ASP.NET user controls).

We used it with SVN and it is fine, but now switched to TFS Source Control and Gemini still works well with it.
