Sensors in the Galaxy Tab emulator

I am trying to get the orientation of the Galaxy Tab by reading information from various sensors.

Orientation should be possible with:

  • accelerometer and compass (magnetic field)
  • gyroscope

The emulator has an accelerometer and gyroscope included in config.ini, but it uses API 8 (Android 2.2). The hyposcope seems to be supported in 2.3.

When I list the available sensors, I get only an accelerometer, gyroscope or compass.

The only solution I can think of is to switch the emulator to API 9 (2.3). Is this the only solution?

How can NOVA from Gameloft use a gyroscope?

Well ... I tried on the Galaxy Tab 2.2 (and not the emulator), and the gyroscope works!

The actual Galaxy tab includes the necessary accelerometer and magnetic field sensors, which you can use to get the device’s three-axis orientation.

As it happens, the hardware also includes a gyroscope, but since the device was run as Android 2.2, it does not report the gyroscope value so that you can use the 2.3 APIs.
