Live Acceleration / Overvoltage on Linux

Some motherboards include Windows software, which allows you to overclock / reconfigure the processor at boot time. How it works? I want to write a program to implement this feature for Linux.

The method will have a chipset / BIOS. Recent systems probably use ACPI, so start by looking at the ACDI DSDT of the system of interest. Try matching IDs / device names from DSDT with strings found in the binary utility to narrow down the devices you need.
