How to transfer an Amazon micro instance to a small instance?

I want to transfer my instance to a micro instance on a small instance, but when I try to launch a new AMI based on the AMI of the Micro instance, it gives me only the option for 64-bit instances.

My initial ami is based on an image of ubuntu 10.04.

Is it impossible to move between a 64-bit and 32-bit instance?

A 64-bit image requires a 64-bit instance. 32-bit to 32-bit. You may have a 64-bit instance of Micro, but I believe that small instances are only available in a 32-bit flavor .

  • Update . At the same time, AWS introduced 64-bit Ubiquity, that is, each instance type can be used with 64-bit images, which will really make it easier for you to scale vertically (to larger and smaller copies) without the need for parallel (32 and 64-bit) support AMI (see EC2 Updates: New Medium Instance, 64-bit Ubiquity, SSH Client for details).
