Does anyone know of a free site search?

I am looking for a free website search engine. One that requires very little support and does not send spam to my ads users. Ideally, this would be easy to implement, easy to maintain, and not require any major installation procedures.

Also, I am trying to avoid a custom Google search.

Please let me know about any products that you think will satisfy these requirements!

thanks

You can use perlfect Search from sourceforge.net

Perlfect Search is a free, sophisticated, powerful, versatile, customizable, and effective site indexing / search package, available under an open source license (GPL).

It comes as a couple of different scripts. An indexer that automatically crawls and indexes the website and search engine, a cgi script that serves search queries by keywords by index and displays the result pages in html, in a standard format, including the name, description and relevance rating for each relevant document. Advanced features include stop words, a powerful exclusion mechanism, and convenient automatic installation and configuration.

Download: you can download Perlfect Search in tar.gz (Linux / Unix) or zip (Windows) format:

"Ease of implementation and maintenance" is a bit relative, so I'm not sure where your threshold is. But if you exclude things like Google CSE (and similar offers from other search engines), you need to consider installing some kind of search software on your server and doing the indexing yourself.

You can start with Apache Solr very quickly if you are ready to write some scripts to mass index the contents of your site in it. If you want the tool to crawl your site for you and index it, then Apache Nutch is a solid choice. I installed it to scan and search the website in less than one day. An added bonus for combining Solr with Nutch (read here and here ). I heard that their latest integration is smoother than ever when Solr was transferred to Lucene.

If you don't mind crawling your own pages, you can implement your own with Lucene. Lucene is a great open source full-text search engine, and the advantage of using it is that you can do it your own way. This is pretty easy to use after spending 15 minutes reading some lessons.

It is available for Java and .NET (and others).
