Yes, it is quite simple. The solution file for Visual Studio 2008 comes with the original tarball and is located in the directory ** .. \ mono-2.6.1.tar \ mono-2.6.1 \ mono-2.6.1 \ msvc ** (you must specify your mono version of the course ) Here is a quote from the readme file:
BUILDING
From this type of directory:
msbuild.exe mono.sln /p:Configuration=Debug_eglib
msbuild should be in your path, it comes with the .NET Framework.
Latest sources can be downloaded from here .
EDIT
First of all, the mono class library is part of the mono executable version and is created simultaneously with the runtime. Not all parts of mono (as well as not all parts of the base class library) are written in C #. For example, zlib-related material is written in C. Building mono is not a simple process, my answer above is just a hint about where the solution file is. A complete tutorial on creating mono in the cold of Windows can be found here . If you just want to view the source code, then this will be a good starting point. * .. \ mono-2.6.1.tar \ mono-2.6.1 \ mono-2.6.1 \ mcs \ class \ corlib \ System *.
