What encryption mechanisms does SQL Server 2008 Standard offer?

As I can see, TDE and EKM mechanisms are only available in the Enterprise edition. How can I encrypt data in tables in the standard version of SQL Server 2008?

You have built-in encryption capabilities.

This article ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179331.aspx ) provides an example showing how to do the following:

Master key certificate Symmetric key Apply the encryption key to the column.

You do not need to have a corporate version for this option.

The above article shows you step-by-step how to implement column-level encryption.
