First of all, of course, 3D:
- CAD (did you know that today all cars, planes, boats, or in general something are developed using a computer and CAD software?)
- Scientific visualization, visualization of the area (google-earth, I think), scientific modeling (any kind of modeling actually, from liquids to sounds or deformations, molecules, etc.), medical visualization and help during surgery, etc. ...
- User interfaces (not only 3D on the screen, but also new input devices must be developed)
- ...
And, of course, 2D is part of computer graphics. Think about digital photography, image filter algorithms, real-time encoding and decoding with highly compressed video, digital camera chips, etc. The list is endless.
