Can I upload content (any type of png / jpg) to the Android market, which I could upload while the application is running.

No, you can only upload .apk apps to the Market.

If you have little content, you can embed it in your application as a Resource . Then the content is embedded in the .apk file, and you can get it using the standard Android API.

If you have a lot of content - say, a lot of megabytes, which you prefer to download and possibly cache on an SD card, you will need your own website.

You can also add it to /res/drawable and use it without having to download it.
