Is there an application that I can show the client the speed of my site through various Internet connections?

I have a new client with an old site using a huge number of tables and inline styles. Some pages weigh more than 3 MB due to the huge background and other large images. I suggested that they at least compress the files to speed up the site, but they are quickly convinced. Since they have a 13 megabyte connection in the office, everything seems to be fast.

I am looking for a customizable, software or web application that can load pages at different speeds so that they understand how they can load for slower DSL or (gasp) users.

Thanks for any help!

For Windows, take a look at NEWT: http://blog.mrpol.nl/2010/01/14/network-emulator-toolkit/

In addition, Fiddler can use a simulated network bandwidth: http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/

Yes, try http://www.loadtestingtool.com/ , there are other tools, but WAPT is the easiest I have found. Here is the complete list of tools: http://www.softwareqatest.com/qatweb1.html#LOAD

Sometimes I use http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/

It does not animate the load at different speeds, but has the following:

  Connection Rate Download Time
 14.4K 115.10 seconds
 28.8K 59.15 seconds
 33.6K 51.16 seconds
 56K 31.97 seconds
 ISDN 128K 12.01 seconds
 T1 1.44Mbps 3.96 seconds

It also destroys areas where immunity is required.
