What are the new features of Java 7

What is the most official list of Java 7 features? I find very little useful information about this on the official JDK 7 website. In addition, I can only find blogs with people summarizing “some” of the new features.

However, some of these blog entries are old, and some of them claim that these features may or may not be included in Java 7.

  • Can someone provide a list of features that will definitely be included in Java 7?

  • I would also really like to know the approximate release date .

  • Will it be backward compatible with my existing Java EE 6 stuff. That is, I can easily switch using EJB, JPA2, Glassfish 3, etc.

I’m mostly interested in Closures, so I’m happy to switch to Java 7 as soon as the stable version comes out.

The runtime (Java 6, Java 7) for starting this container will depend on the containers . Some may support Java 7, others may not.

JDK 7 has a special page. For a list of features that are already implemented, milestone steps are useful. It also gives us a clue as to when absences can be expected.

Closures (officially they are “lambda expressions”) are part of Project Lambda .
