Websync: pros and cons?

What is your experience with Websync (comet infrastructure)? Have you considered any alternatives before using it?

I can still say that

Pros:

  • Very simple and easy to use.
  • No server configuration required

Minuses:

  • Expensive (it turned out to save us tons of money on bandwidth, so not really)
  • Lack of documentation (there are a few more fixes using WebSync3, but the documentation is very nice and complete)
  • The Javascript structure is not flexible enough (it turned out to be flexible enough, although it took some time to do everything that was necessary with WebSync2, only to see that this would become one of the typical use cases in WebSync3 (authentication, etc.)

Conclusion: The structure is surprisingly simple and flexible and allowed us to use it in ways that the authors did not even think about;)

As for the price: it turned out to be completely worth the money. Plus, support is just beyond.

I will leave it to someone else to post my thoughts on using WebSync, but I decided that at least I would try to address the minuses;)

1) Regarding open source solutions, of course. But, what you pay for the initial costs, IMHO, you easily make up for because of the ease of use and implementation time :). I do not think that you will find a cometary solution that is faster or easier to implement. Compared to other closed source solutions, we are pretty cheap; Some other cometary solutions run 20k + for license and require a support subscription.

2) Yes, I know that. The examples and documentation cover the basics, and this is enough to put together a decent application, but not go into details for more complex scenarios, etc. We are working on updating it.

3) I would like to know what additional flexibility you would like to see in the javascript framework; was there anything in particular you were looking for? Drop the note in the comments!
