Mathematica quickie: About creating cells. Default input cells

I lecture, Fundamentals of Mathematical Programming (see .nb file there). I would like to be able to do the exercises right in the notebook; but for some reason I cannot figure out how to make the default cell an input cell. In other words, when I click on this laptop to create a new cell - in the exercises - the default cell is a text cell. I would like it to be an input cell, so I don’t need to manually change it every time. Ideas?

The default cell style for installing Mathematica vanilla should already be " Input ." It looks like you are using the edited default stylesheet or have changed the settings.

For the latest versions (6.0+), go to Preferences , and on the Evaluation tab, make sure that the Style of the newly typed cells "style is set to "Input" , and in the drop-down list under it" Format type of new input cells "is set to "StandardForm" .

For older versions, make sure Cell -> The default input format. . The menu is set to StandardForm . To check / change the default input type of a cell, open Format β†’ Option Inspector ... in the menu and select Cellular Settings β†’ New Cell Defaults and set DefaultNewCellStyle to "Input" .

In the drop-down list at the top, you can set the option inspector area to global or laptop . The particular laptop you are attached to has the default "Text" style.
