Good .net4 profiler

What is a good profiler for .NET 4.0? I am willing to spend some money, but not too much (say, up to Β£ 50).

I develop games for windows phone and xbox using XNA, which means the projects are commercial. I mention this because I saw several free ones for non-commercial use.

Additional points for integrating Visual Studio.

Nb. I am using Visual Studio Professional 2010

An extremely under-advertised free profiler - SharpDevelop Profiler .

It is really powerful and supports the extremely undocumented PSQL (Profiler SQL, as they call it). For example, I can filter out all the functions that interest me by entering them in the query string:

for f in Functions where f.Name.Contains("Foo") select f

EQATEC Profiler describes almost everything .NET, including what you need:

  • Full .NET 2.0 and higher
  • Windows Phone 7 , both Silverlight and XNA applications
  • Silverlight 2.0 and higher
  • NET CF 2.0 and higher (WinCE, Windows Mobile)
  • Xbox XNA (but not integrated deployment to Xbox)

In short: the only thing that doesn't profile is .NET 1.x (full / netcf). No other profilers in the world work on many .NET platforms. It is also known for being fairly easy to use.

Visual Studio 2010 has a pretty good built-in profiler (only available in Premium and Ultimate editions)

Another great dotTrace profiler.

I just listed the profilers that I know support .Net 4.0 right now, but look at this old question about .Net profiles. . Perhaps some of them have recently added support for .Net 4.0 too. In any case, I do not think that there are any new profilers there, since this is a rather complicated topic.

Everyone wants a profiler, but this low-tech method works great.
