I am setting up the proper environment for my client (dev / qa / stage / prod). I would like to find a way to export reports so that we can move from one environment to another. Reports with a custom RDL type are easy (just import the RDL into the next environment), but reports created inside CRM are not exported anywhere. Am I missing something? Is this another feature that has been missed?

Go to the reports. Select a report and click "edit report" on the toolbar. in actions click "Download Report" and you will get a lightweight RDL file for playback.
Reports are stored in the CRM installation directory, which most likely will look something like this: C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft Dynamics CRM \ Reports \
